EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

There is an Executive Committee which consist of the following:

  1. President
  2. Vice President

iii. Secretary

  1. Vice Secretary
  2. Treasurer
  3. Public Relations Officer

2) GENERAL FUNCTIONS

(a) The Executive Committee performs the following functions:

  1. maintain all provisions of the SRC constitution
  2. Establish structures that would coordinate the affairs of the various organs set-out under this constitution

iii. Submit to the General Assembly projects and programmes of the SRC at the beginning of each trimester

  1. Any other function as may be determined necessary

FUNCTIONS OF MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

(1) THE PRESIDENT

(a)The President performs the role of a Chief Spokesperson

Of all students in this University and performs the following

Functions:

  1. Maintain all provisions of this Constitution;
  2. Preside over all meetings of the Executive Council and Executive Committee;

iii. Represent the student body on the University Council;

  1. Be the principal signatory to the SRC account;
  2. Deliver an address to the General Assembly on the State of Affairs of the SRC at the beginning of each trimester and before the dissolution of the General Assembly;
  3. Bring to the notice of the General Assembly at its first sitting such committees in the University on which the SRC has representation upon which the General Assembly shall approve nominees for such committee; and

(b)Before assuming office, the President shall take and subscribe before the general student body at a public gathering, the Presidential Oath set out in Schedule 2(a) of the Constitution.

(2) THE VICE PRESIDENT

(a) There is a Vice President of the SRC who performs such functions as may be assigned to him by the Constitution or the President and include;

  1. Assisting the President in the performance of his functions;
  2. Act as an ex-officio non-voting member of all Commissions, Committees and Boards of the SRC and shall co-ordinate the activities of such bodies provided for in the Constitution and/or under a resolution of the General Assembly;

iii. Act in the absence of the President and when so acting, shall be vested with all the powers of the President, subject to the provisions of the Constitution.

  1. Whenever the president dies, resigns or is removed from office, the Vice-President shall assume office as President for the unexpired term of office of the President with effect from the date of the death, resignation or removal of the President.

(b)A candidate for the office of vice-president of the SRC shall be designated by the candidate for the office of President before the election of the President.

(c) Before assuming office, the Vice President shall take and subscribe before the general student body at a public gathering, the Presidential Oath

(3) THE SECRETARY

There is a Secretary who is the administrative head of the SRC Secretariat, and Secretary to the Executive Council and Executive Committee;

(b)The Secretary perform duties and function, which includes:

  1. Keeping and maintaining true and accurate minutes and records of all proceedings of the Executive Council and Executive Committee;
  2. Take charge of all correspondence of the SRC;

iii. Compile an official list of all members of the Executive Council

in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution;

  1. Submit the true and accurate records of the outcome of meetings

of the Executive Committee within three (3) working days and the

Executive Council within five (5) working days after every meeting

to the General Assembly

  1. Take stock of all SRC assets and report to the General Assembly

at its first sitting;

  1. Write and distribute all notices on the instruction and/or

directions of the President, the Executive Committee and/ or

the Executive Council; and

vii. Perform such other duties assigned by the President,

Executive Council or Executive Committee.

(c)The Secretary on assumption of office shall take and subscribe before the general student body at a public gathering, the Oath of Office set out in Schedule 2(b) of the Constitution.

4) THE VICE SECRETARY

  1. There is a Vice Secretary appointed by the Executive Committee subject to the approval of the General Assembly at its first sitting;
  2. The Vice Secretary performs duties and functions, which include:
  3. Assist the Secretary in the performance of his/her duties;

ii.Act in the absence of the Secretary; and

iii. Such other duties assigned by the President or Executive Committee

  1. The Vice Secretary shall upon appointment and approval, take and subscribe to the Oath of Office set out in Schedule 2(c) of the Constitution.

5). THE TREASURER

  1. There is a Treasurer who perform duties and functions, which include:
  2. The receipt of all monies and revenues accruing to the SRC or Committees, Boards and Commissions of the SRC, and the disbursement of such monies as the Executive Committee shall direct, subject to the approval of the General Assembly; ii. Take charge of all financial transactions of the SRC in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution; iii. Keep and maintain proper records of accounts of monies and revenues to which the SRC is entitled;
  3. Be a signatory to the SRC account;
  4. Be Secretary to the Finance Committee and perform such duties in relation to the Committee;
  5. Keep an accountable impress that shall be determined by the General Assembly from time to time;

vii. Prepare and submit a financial statement for auditing at the end of the term of office; and

viii. Perform such other duties assigned by the President, the Executive Committee or the General Assembly.

  1. The Treasurer on assumption of office take and subscribe before the general student body at a public gathering, the Executive Officer’s Oath set out in Schedule 2(b) of this Constitution.

6) ACTING TREASURER

Notwithstanding article 8 (5)of this Constitution, the chairperson of the Finance Committee shall in the event of death, removal or resignation of the Treasurer, act as Treasurer until such time that fresh elections are conducted to fill the vacancy.

7) THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (P.R.O)

  1. The Public Relations Officer is appointed by the President.
  2. The P.R.O performs the following functions:

  1. Be the Editor in-Chief and Press Secretary to the President and SRC;
  2. Be responsible for the editing and approval of all materials to be Posted on the notice board(s);

iii. Protect and maintain the corporate image of the SRC;

  1. Research, collate and analyze information on issues of national interest for purposes aimed at contributing to debates and discussions on issues of national importance including the writing of articles in the media with the prior approval of the General Assembly;
  2. In consultation with the Executive Committee, be responsible for the publication of newsletters, commemoration posters and solidarity campaigns;
  3. In consultation with the President and Executive Committee, be responsible for the writing of the President Speeches;

vii. Work towards building a more solid relations between the students and the organs of the SRC provided for under the Constitution;

viii. Act as an Ex-Officio member of all Commissions, Committees and Boards of the SRC.

  1. The P.R.O shall upon appointment, take and subscribe to the Oath of

Office set out in Schedule 2(c) of the Constitution.
