*HON. DORCAS AMAQUANDOH APPOINTED AS WOCOM REPRESENTATIVE ON SRC/NUGS ELECTION VETTING PANEL*

With the acceptance of the resignation tendered in by the former WOCOM Hon Kissiwaah Loretha, a statutory instrument has been passed by the SRC Judicial Board to find a representative for the Women Commission on the vetting panel of the impending SRC/NUGS Election.

Per Article 18 (2),
“In the event of an Executive Officer being removed from office or resigning en-bloc, the remaining members of the Executive Committee shall function with the Speaker of the General Assembly serving as acting President until fresh elections are conducted.”

This provision of the SRC constitution in its entirety is silent on a particular individual been qualified to replace that vacuum created.
*The legal interpretation of that article is that WOCOM is not part of the SRC Executive Committee.*

With a further reference to Article 32(4) which also states that   “The [Judicial] Board shall have jurisdiction in every matter relating to the enforcement or interpretation of any provision of this Constitution. *In addition, matters on which this Constitution is silent shall be referred to the Judicial Board and its ruling shall be precedent until a provision is enacted to that effect.”*

This leaves the matter in the bosom of the SRC Judicial Board to decide.
In that regard, the Judicial Board of SRC advised that an emergency General Assembly meeting be held.
However, upon the G.A meeting held yesterday, 8th March 2017 at about 8pm, the statutory 2/3 quorum was not formed. The meeting was therefore called off.

Considering the nature and urgency of the case, the Judicial Board sat immediately after the aborted General Assembly meeting to find a replacement.

*ADJUDICATION*

The Judicial Board unanimously left the matter to the ladies that are qualified members of the general assembly to elect among themselves a member to be named as the representative on the vetting panel. Upon a fair process supervised by the Judicial Board, Honourable Dorcas Amaquandoh was nominated and named as the WOCOM Representative on the vetting panel.
